Cancer Death Rate Highest in U.S. Capital

NEW YORK — The nation’s capital has the highest cancer death rate in the United States, a study published in the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.’s Statistical Bulletin said.
The study analyzed data between 1979 and 1981 and found the cancer mortality rate among men ages 35 to 74 was 515 deaths per 100,000 in Washington, D.C. It was described as a “dramatic†62% above the national average of 318 deaths per 100,000.
