Single-family home resales fell 5.7% in January.
The National Assn. of Realtors said that, despite the decline, existing homes were sold last month at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.32 million units--the 11th consecutive month that sales have been at a rate of 3 million units or higher. The Northeast was the only region of the country where sales went up in January, increasing 4.3% over the December level. Sales declined 6.3% in the Midwest, 7.1% in the South and 11.7% in the West.
