The downtown area will get a comedian’s version of a popular tourist attraction in Hollywood when the handprints and footprints of comics who perform at the Comedy and Magic Club on Hermosa Boulevard are placed in the sidewalk.

The City Council this week unanimously approved a proposal from the night club that will allow it to memorialize its performers in much the same way entertainers are honored at Mann’s (formerly Grauman’s) Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.

Mike Lacey, who owns the 8-year-old club, said he wants to place handprints, footprints and autographs of the club’s performers in the pavement outside his business. He said the comedians now put their signatures on a wall inside the club.

The council stipulated that Lacey must provide liability insurance for the sidewalk and cover the prints with an epoxy resin so that they will remain level with the sidewalk. Lacey said he intends to start the program immediately so that he can get the prints of Robin Williams and Harry Anderson when they appear at the club in April.
