TEE TO GREEN AT MESA VERDE

The Uniden LPGA Invitational begins Thursday at the Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa. A field of 144 golfers will play 72 holes through Sunday on the 6,105-yard, par-72 layout.
The course is among the most demanding on the LPGA Tour, with three holes ranked among the most difficult on the 1985 tour. The par-4 17th was tied for ninth, the par-4 eighth was 15th and the par-4 No. 9 was tied for 30th.
In the 1985 Uniden, won by Bonnie Lauer with an 11-under 277, only five players broke par. In 1984, the first year of the event, two players--winner Nancy Lopez and Pat Bradley--managed scores under even-par 288.
Eighteen Mesa Verde members who have learned the ins and outs of the tees, fairways, rough, hazards and greens give some insights on how to attack the course, and of how to stay out of trouble.
