SOUTHERN SECTION BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : 3-A Division : Fountain Valley, Mater Dei to Meet in Girls’ 4-A Playoffs

Fountain Valley High School plays at Mater Dei at 7:30 tonight in the second round of the Southern Section girls’ 4-A basketball playoffs.

The Barons (23-5), Sunset League champions, had an easy time in the first round, defeating Pasadena, 82-42. Forward Jackie Cook had 27 points and 28 rebounds.

Mater Dei (21-7), Angelus League champions, had a much tougher time. The Monarchs defeated Santa Barbara, 50-44. Mater Dei got balanced scoring from Geri Gainey (12 points), Kim Ellerman (11) and Noelle Manfre (10).

In the 2-A division, La Habra (22-4), Freeway League champions, will be at home against La Quinta (19-6), Garden Grove League champions. Highlander sophomore forward Robin Seabrook scored 42 points--two short of Paula Tezak’s school record--in La Habra’s, 70-46, first-round win over St. Anthony.
