Pullard Misses First Height in Vault

It was a night to remember for record setters Sergei Bubka, Diane Dixon and Jeanette Bolden, and for American record-setter Jackie Joyner in The Times-GTE Indoor Games on Friday at the Forum.
It was also a night Bob Pullard of Reseda would just as soon forget. Pullard, a 34-year-old Los Angeles Police officer, was unable to clear his opening height of 15-6 in the Olympic Development pole vault competition. He left the track five hours before Bubka cleared a world indoor record 19-5 3/4 in the open pole vault competition for invited world-class competitors.
Simi Valley High’s 8 x 160 relay team placed second (2:16.55) behind a highly regarded Hawthorne team (2:15.06). The Thousand Oaks girls 8 x 160 relay team also placed second with a time of 2:39.56.
Saugus High senior Daren Stonerock placed third in the boys two mile with a time of 9:19.82.
Valley College placed third in both the men’s and women’s mile relays. The men’s time was 3:24.81. The women’s time was not available.
