Roundup : Delatorre Leads Mar Vista

SAN DIEGO — Mar Vista High School’s Richard Delatorre scored eight straight baskets at the end of the first period and beginning of the second to give the Mariners a 29-19 edge at the half, en route to a 54-51 win over host Southwest Friday night.
Delatorre scored 16 of his 20 points in the first period.
The victory forces a playoff between Mar Vista and Marian at 1 o’clock today at Southwest. Marian lost to Castle Park, 65-63, Friday. Today’s winner will represent the Metro Mesa League as the No. 2 seed into next week’s playoffs.
In other Metro-Mesa games:
Sweetwater 95, Hilltop 66--Mahlon Williams scored 29 points to lead No. 6-ranked Sweetwater (12-1, 18-6) past the Lancers (6-7, 12-15). Sweetwater led, 51-38, at halftime to gain its eighth straight league title.
Montgomery 76, Bonita Vista 65--Aztec Rudy Rodriguez had 25 points as Montgomery (9-4, 13-8) closed its regular season play with a win over the Barons (6-7, 10-12). Montgomery outscored Bonita Vista, 21-8, in the first quarter, but was outscored, 38-29, in the second half.
METRO-SOUTH BAY
Castle Park 65, Marian 63--Guard Javier Nunez went the distance of the court and scored with two seconds left to give the No. 4 Trojans (13-0, 22-1) the win over the Crusaders (7-14, 3-9). Eddie Moreno, who scored 14, sank two free throws to tie the game, 63-63. Antoine Lincoln had 17 for Castle Park.
