Juha Kankkunen of Finland, driving a Peugot, won the Swedish world series auto rally at Karlstad, Sweden, after two days of driving in the snowy forests of the western province of Varmland.
Kankkunen was timed in 5 hours 9 minutes 19 seconds. He finished 1 minute 54 seconds ahead of Markku Alen, also of Finland, in a Lancia, while Swedish drivers Carl Grundel in a Ford and Mikael Ericsson in an Audi finished third and fourth.
