CLEAR THE FLOOR

Disco may be dead but John Travolta’s “Saturday Night Fever” dance routine lives on in Tri-Star’s “Short Circuit”--with help from a robot named No. 5 and John Badham, who directed both pics.
The movie, due this summer, tells of a government robot who goes haywire. No. 5 loses his warring instincts and turns into a peacenik, with his creator (actor Steve Guttenberg) hot on the trail.
At one point, Ally Sheedy--who’s befriended No. 5--discovers he’s been up all night watching TV. The robot breaks into a Travolta number, with struts and slides, then sweeps Sheedy into his arms for a spin a la Travolta-Karen Lynn Gorney in “Fever.”
Well, not exactly the same.
Confided an insider, “He doesn’t wear a white suit.”
