Edison Tight End Griggs Chooses Utah; Dana Hills Tackle Baird Picks Stanford

Tight end Ken Griggs of Edison High and offensive tackle Darran Baird of Dana Hills, two Times All-Orange County players, said Wednesday night they will play their college football for Utah and Stanford, respectively.
Griggs (6-4, 215) was considered the top tight end in Orange County last season and one of the offensive stars as Edison tied for the Big Five Conference championship with Long Beach Poly.
“They play exciting football,” Griggs said of Utah, where he expects to see some action as a freshman. “It reminded me a lot of Edison because you can tell they all play as a team.”
Baird (6-5, 250) picked Stanford over Cal, Oregon and Arizona State.
“They (the Cardinal) are real confident about how they are going to do next year as far as making a bowl game,” he said. “They also have a good weight coach (Steve Schulz) and running back coach (Jimmy Walsh) who can help me improve my speed.”
