Boitano Captures Skating Lead

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Defending champion Brian Boitano staged a gutsy performance today, taking the lead in the men’s competition at the National Figure Skating Championships despite a painful ankle injury.
Boitano, 22, of Sunnyvale, Calif., had 105.00 points and 10 ordinals, well in front of Christopher Bowman of Van Nuys, Calif., who collected 102.40 points and 19 ordinals.
