The ABC Unified School District Board of Education has selected a Sacramento firm to search for a new superintendent for the 22,000-student district.
The board chose School Services of California to find a replacement for Eugene Tucker. Tucker, who had been superintendent for 10 years, is leaving to take a similar post with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
The board voted 7-0 during a special meeting Saturday to hire the firm from among seven others that had been considered.
Cost for the search is being negotiated but is expected to be between $9,000 and $15,000. The search is expected to take from three to four months, Board President Peggy Lee said.
With both districts in agreement, Tucker, 56, is spending a portion of his time at each district until the end of the school year in May.
Tucker was hired by the Cerritos-based ABC district in 1976 from the Coachella Valley Unfied School District, where he was superintendent.
