Miserable Weather Across U.S.
Fog and freezing rain today created treacherous traveling conditions from the Dakotas to the Atlantic Coast, icing roads, closing schools and delaying flights. Heavy rain flooded streets and pushed streams out of their banks in drought-parched Texas.
The miserable weather delayed flights in Trenton, N.J., and Lansing, Mich. Icy roads forced 84 school districts in 23 southern Michigan counties to cancel classes. In Texas, the LBJ Ranch on the banks of the Pedernales River, home of former President Lyndon B. Johnson, reported 4.4 inches of rain early today, and police in Tyler in east Texas said they had more than 5 inches of rain.
