A smoky, greater-alarm fire swept through a recently renovated San Francisco Tenderloin district hotel, sending 84 residents, many of them elderly, fleeing into the street. The blaze caused extensive damage but no serious injuries. It was probably sparked by a hot iron or a faulty extension cord, San Francisco fire officials said.
