San Diego
James P. Bacon Jr. will become the San Diego Zoo’s general manager Wednesday, a zoo spokesman said Thursday.
Bacon will replace Terry Winnick, who resigned “about two weeks ago,†according to zoo spokesman Georgeanne Irvine.
Winnick, who had been general manager since June, 1982, gave no indication why he resigned, saying only, “I just want to go and do some things I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.†He declined to elaborate.
Bacon is currently the Zoological Society’s general curator of herpetology. As general manager, he will continue in his curatorial capacity, plus he will oversee all daily operations of the zoo and will be responsible for all visitor and animal facilities, services, physical plant and the various services.
