San Diego
Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old San Diego boy who was found lying wounded on the sidewalk in Southeast San Diego late Saturday.
The youth, identified by the county coroner’s office as Robert Alan Smith of the 4100 block of Arbor Vitae Drive, died early Sunday at Scripps Memorial Hospital as a result of a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
A police spokesman said Smith was found in the 5300 block of Santa Margarita Drive at about 10:15 p.m. after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. Smith was unemployed and lived with his mother, the coroner’s office said.
