Cougar Hunting
As a prelude to its planned resumption of the sport of cougar hunting in California this year, the Fish and Game Department is about to issue a scientific permit to kill every cougar in the North Kings area in order to weigh the impact such a slaughter might have on fawn survival in that area.
I hope that all those Times readers who share my disappointment in the department’s astonishing abdication of its traditional role as the steward of California wildlife will make their views known to the California Department of Fish and Game, Jack Parnell, director, State Capitol, Sacramento.
In the “sport†of cougar hunting, incidentally, dogs are used to tree the animal, which is then shot from the tree and left to rot.
