Newport Beach : Council Members Again Select Maurer as Mayor

Newport Beach Mayor Philip R. Maurer was unanimously reelected Monday night to a second term by his colleagues on the Newport Beach City Council.
The 68-year-old retired junior high school teacher, a councilman for the past five years, said his goals for the upcoming year include:
- Improving the water quality of Newport Bay;
- Coming to an agreement with the county regarding the growth of John Wayne Airport;
- Getting the youth of Newport Beach to play an active role in advising the city on “teen problems.”
The council also reelected Councilwoman Ruthelyn Plummer as mayor pro tem.
