Private School to Lease Space at Adult Center
NORWALK — The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Trustees has accepted a bid submitted by the Barbara Dawson Educational Center to lease a portion of the La Mirada Adult School.
The private Dawson school for handicapped adults, which currently leases classrooms on the former Hoxie Elementary School site, expects to move to the new quarters by mid-January, program director Shirley Moore said. The Dawson center will be leasing eight classrooms at the La Mirada school, located at 15310 Alondra Boulevard, for $15,000 a year.
“We’re really looking forward to having more room,†said Moore, adding that the move will provide the Dawson school with two extra classrooms. The three-year-old school has 99 clients, she said.
The Dawson school and the Los Angeles County Office of Education were given notice in October that the Hoxie school site was going to be leased to the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency, effective July 1. Dawson school officials, however, are moving out of the Hoxie site earlier than expected. The new lease at La Mirada Adult School will run from Jan. 1, 1986 to Jan. 1, 1989.
