The Washington Capitals traded center Doug Jarvis to the Hartford Whalers for left wing Jorgan Pettersson.
Jarvis, 30, who has spent four seasons with the Capitals, won the Selke Trophy awarded to the league’s top defensive player in 1983. Pettersson, from Sweden, is 29.
