An elderly woman was killed Friday evening when she was knocked to an Ocean Beach street by several youngsters on bicycles and then run over by a car, police said.

San Diego police and county coroners said they had been unable to identify the woman, who they said appeared to be 70 to 75.

The woman was crossing in the 4700 block of Narragansett Avenue at about 5:55 p.m. when she was knocked down by several bicyclists, police and coroners’ officials said.

Charles Kelley, a deputy coroner, said a witness told one of the bicyclists to stand by while he went into a nearby house to call for help. But the youngsters apparently rode away, leaving the woman alone on the dark street, Kelley said.

Almost immediately, she was struck and killed by a car driven by David McFalls, 31, of Ocean Beach, according to San Diego Police Lt. Dan Johnson.

McFalls was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol, Johnson said.
