Small Hotels of Europe

I was amazed when I read Jerry Hulse’s article on Paris hotels, that he is still recommending the Hotel St. Louis on Ile-St.-Louis. My two sisters and I returned from a three-week trip to France about three weeks ago; our last night in France was spent in the Hotel St. Louis. We had asked for a twin-bedded room and a single and were given two rooms with double beds. One sister had to sleep on the floor on a futon (the room was tiny) because there were no other rooms available. They put us, three ladies over 60, on the fourth and fifth floors. The only good thing I can say about it is that the bathrooms are clean, otherwise it is a disaster.
May I suggest three excellent restaurants: Au Petit Col, 68 Rue de la Chaite, 69002 Lyon, phone (7) 837-25-18. The dinner for $11.50, excellent. La Coquille, 65 Rue Felix Faure, 06400 Cannes, phone (93) 39-26-33. Wonderful seafood for $8.50. Le Balandre, Avenue Charles-de-Freycinet, 46000 Cahors, phone (16) 30-01-97. This restaurant is in the Hotel Terminus, an excellent hotel run by chef Gilles Marre and his family, truly wonderful food for $10.
Thanks for doing such an excellent job in the Travel Section.
