PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates will play a season-opening game at home for the first time in five years in 1986 when they meet the New York Mets on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:05 p.m.
It will mark the second season in a row the Pirates have played their home opener at night. Until last season, the Pirates traditionally played a daytime home opener.
The Pirates will conclude their first home stand of the season with a 7:35 p.m. game against the Mets on April 10 and three games against the Chicago Cubs on April 11-13. The April 11 game will start at 7:35 p.m. and the next two contests will be day games.
The Pirates have no scheduled home doubleheaders for the second season in a row, although they will play a June 15 twinbill at New York.
