Insurer Calls Surgery a Leading Cause of Suits

Surgery and postoperative complications were the leading causes of its malpractice suits in 1983-84, according to the St. Paul Insurance Companies.
The company said it had received 1,442 claims in that category for that period. Birth-related claims were second, with 703.
