Comment on Sign Law ‘Ludicrous’

It’s fine if South Gate Councilman Henry C. Gonzalez wants to brag that he was the only city father to support the English-language requirement. But how ludicrous his comments (“English-Only Sign Proposal Sidetracked,” Long Beach section, Nov. 24) in which he objects to having a sign all in Spanish, and no English whatsoever.
“It puts up a wall when a business starts publicizing in Spanish only. It tells Anglos and blacks that they’re not welcome in the store,” says the only Latino councilman.
Ludicrous? Ignorant! Tell us, Mr. Gonzalez, what the following sign in Long Beach conveys. Casa de Laundry ?
