The State : Hayward Bans AIDS Bias
Hayward has approved an ordinance outlawing discrimination against AIDS victims. “We hope this dispels some of the hysteria that comes with AIDS,†said Mayor Alex Guiliani after the City Council’s 5-1 vote on the ordinance modeled after similar measures in San Francisco, Los Angeles and West Hollywood. The new law bans discrimination in housing, employment, business and medical services and allows acquired immune deficiency syndrome victims to sue for actual damages and collect punitive damages, Deputy City Atty. David Weingard said.
