Michael Spinks will defend his International Boxing Federation heavyweight championship against Gerry Cooney sometime in March, the New York Post reported in its Thursday editions.
Still to be worked out are the purse and if the fight will be sanctioned, the story said. Spinks is reported to be asking for between $5 and $6 million plus a percentage for the bout while Cooney would earn between $2 and $3 million.
The Post also said in its story that Lewis has held talks with former IBF heavyweight champion Larry Holmes and there is a “50-50 chance that Spinks would fight Holmes before Cooney.â€
