The City Council unanimously approved a conceptual agreement Tuesday allowing the Santa Fe Railroad to develop a portion of unused railroad right of way along Valley Drive and Ardmore Avenue, between Sepulveda Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.
In exchange, the city would agree to pay $4.2 million for a 21-acre portion of the right of way west of Sepulveda Boulevard for use as a park.
The agreement, which must undergo Planning Commission review and a series of public hearings before final adoption, would allow Santa Fe to build a commercial development not exceeding 200,000 square feet in floor space and four stories in height.
