Gandhi, Zia Hold ‘Very Good’ Talks

Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Pakistan’s President Zia ul-Haq today expressed optimism about warmer relations between their countries after talks during Oman’s National Day celebrations.

Both leaders described their half-hour meeting as “very good.†Gandhi said, “The mood is there for normalization.†Zia told reporters that Gandhi invited him to India and added that he might go there in mid-December after a summit of the seven-nation South Asian Assn. for Regional Cooperation in Dhaka.
