Dana Point : Festival to Celebrate the Christmas Season
Dana Point’s first communitywide Christmas Festival will begin Nov. 29 with the lighting of a living Christmas tree at Lantern Bay Park on the bluffs overlooking Dana Point Harbor.
From then through Dec. 15, schoolchildren, business people, service groups and private citizens will work together to re-create “the old-fashioned spirit of Christmas throughout the community,†according to A. C. Loomis, Chamber of Commerce president.
Activities will include a nautical art competition, awards for best home decorations and a Bootleggers Ball on Dec. 14.
Gene Jerry, president of the Dana Point Harbor Assn., said the annual parade of decorated and holiday-lighted boats will cruise through the harbor from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14.
The tree, which has been ordered by the Lantern Bay Co., will be a species of redwood adapted to the ocean climate and with traditional Christmas tree conformation.
It will be just under 30 feet tall and will continue to grow through the years.
