Brea : Councilman Sutton Named Mayor Pro Tem
City Councilman John H. Sutton became Brea’s new mayor pro tem this week as the city continues to receive applications to fill the vacancy left by the death of former Mayor Pro Tem Sam Cooper.
Sutton was appointed to the council in 1983 to fill a vacancy and was elected to a four-year term last year. Before his stint as a councilman, Sutton was a planning commissioner for 17 years, including four terms as chairman, public information officer Bonnie Dwyer said.
Deadline to apply for the vacant seat is Tuesday at noon. So far, eight residents, including Diana Cooper, wife of the late councilman, who died Nov. 6, have applied for the job.
