Interception Sparks Las Vegas to 17-12 Win

LAS VEGAS — Defensive back David Hollis returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown to spark Nevada Las Vegas to a 17-12 victory over New Mexico State Thursday night in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. football game.
The victory improved Nevada Las Vegas’ record to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the PCAA. New Mexico State fell to 1-7 and 0-5.
New Mexico State took a 3-0 lead on Andy Weiler’s 20-yard field, after which the Aggies drove to the Las Vegas 17-yard line. However, Hollis intercepted a Jim Miller pass near the sideline and raced 92 yards for a touchdown to give the Rebels the lead for good.
Weiler added a 47-yard field goal to bring the Aggies within a point in the second quarter.
Fullback Tony Lewis scored on an eight-yard run with 4:58 left in the half to give Las Vegas a 14-6 lead.
The Rebels raised their lead to 17-6 with 9:51 left in the third quarter on Joey DiGiovanna’s 43-yard field goal.
Miller led the Aggies on a 92-yard drive in the fourth quarter, capping the march with a two-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Hairston.
