A nine-man team of Japanese pro golfers took a five-stroke lead over a U.S. team in the first round of the $302,330 ABC Cup at Kawanishi, Japan. The Japanese were led by Tateo Ozaki and Tsuneyuki Nakamura, each of whom shot 66. The top American was Bobby Clampett with a 68.
