MIRA LOMA — A Riverside man was severely injured Wednesday morning when his pickup truck smashed into a parked trailer in a rural area of Riverside County.
Andreas U. Haussler’s pickup plowed into the rear end of a 40-foot trailer legally parked on Etiwanda Avenue north of 58th Street, said Officer Dick Heatley of the California Highway Patrol.
Haussler suffered head and neck injuries, a collapsed lung, a broken right leg and broken ribs in the collision, Heatley said. He was in critical but stable condition Wednesday night after six hours of surgery at Riverside General Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Another driver told Highway Patrol officers that Haussler’s pickup had passed him on the right at about 50 m.p.h shortly before it crashed, Heatley said. A light fog covered the area.
