National Semiconductor will lay off 500 workers.

The company cited continuing financial pressures for the layoffs. “Although we are seeing marginal improvement in semiconductor bookings, the improvement is not occurring quickly,” President Charles Sporck said. “We don’t expect a significant and sustained improvement before the middle of next year.” National Semiconductor said the jobs will be eliminated within a few weeks and will affect all levels of employees.
