Torrance : Parking Ordinance Passed
In an effort to eliminate “front-yard junkyards,†the City Council has passed an ordinance making it illegal to park vehicles in residential front yards, except on paved driveways. In addition, the council has prohibited paving more than 50% of a front yard without city permission.
The ordinances were in response to complaints that some residents are parking several cars, many of them in disrepair, on front lawns for long periods.
Elizabeth Clark, of the city attorney’s office, said the law will normally be enforced only in response to complaints. The new law does not affect backyards or side yards, unless they are visible from the street.
