Foreigners Amazed by Persistence of U.S. Reporters

During his three-day visit to the United Nations, President Reagan good-naturedly fended off questions from reporters in numerous picture-taking sessions while his foreign guests looked on, amused and amazed at the persistence of the American press.

One visitor, Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard A. Shevardnadze, offered the President a consolation of sorts, however.

As the Soviet press was escorted in to view the opening of a session between the two men Thursday, Shevardnadze assured Reagan: “These are our reporters. They won’t ask questions.â€
