Yorba Linda : Apartment Complex for Seniors Is Rejected

Complaining that a 55-unit apartment complex planned for senior citizens was too small and lacked the items necessary to make the older residents’ lives more enjoyable, city officials this week overturned a Planning Commission approval of the project.

The denial to Community Equities Inc. for 55 one-bedroom and studio apartments--to be built on the southwest corner of Orange and Liverpool avenues--was one of two council decisions Monday night that overturned commission approvals.

The apartments, with their planned rents of $375 and $425 a month, lacked a recreation room as well as elevators for the elderly to get to the second floor, Assistant City Manager Bruce Channing said.

City officials also denied the construction of a Primanti Montessori School in an area sandwiched between Grand View Extension and a portion of Imperial Highway known as the Richard Nixon Freeway.
