Myron Butler passed for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns Friday night to lead Saddleback High School to a 38-14 Sea View League victory over Estancia in Santa Ana Stadium.

Butler, who completed 7 of 10 attempts, threw scoring passes of 53, 38 and 14 yards, as the Roadrunners improved their league record to 2-1 (5-1 overall). Wide receiver Danny Ontiveros led the Roadrunners with 4 receptions for 148 yards.

Estancia (0-3, 2-4) took an early lead, as linebacker Brian Sherrard intercepted a Butler pass on the second play of the game and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. Mike Rosellini added the conversion kick and the Eagles led, 7-0, just 52 seconds into the game.

But it was virtually all Saddleback from that point on.

A 53-yard scoring pass play from Butler to Ontiveros with 4:14 left in the first quarter pulled Saddleback to within a point, 7-6, but Todd Maxwell missed the conversion kick that would have tied the score.

Saddleback defensive back Glenn Campbell returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown with 5:48 left in the half, and a two-point conversion pass from Butler to Willie Pickering put the Roadrunners ahead, 14-7.

Maxwell’s 25-yard field goal with 1:37 left in the half gave Saddleback a 17-7 halftime advantage.

The Roadrunners took little time in padding their lead in the second half. Butler connected with wide receiver Joe Deal on a 38-yard scoring play on Daddleback’s second play for a 24-7 lead.

Estancia’s Kinkade recovered a Butler fumble at the Roadrunners’ 16 with 2:14 left in the third quarter, but the Eagle offense could not capitalize. Estancia drove to a first down at the 5, but could not get any closer to the end zone in its next three plays.

On fourth and goal from the 5-yard line, Estancia was called for a delay-of-game penalty. Faced with a fourth and goal from the 10, Rosellini was forced to throw the ball away under the heavy pass rush of Saddleback defensive end Don Westphal.

Saddleback took over at its own 10 and drove 90 yards in 3 plays, with Butler throwing a 14-yard scoring pass to Billy Thurmond with 9:53 left for a 31-7 advantage.

Reserve quarterback Nick Santa Cruz scored on a 72-yard keeper with 5:46 remaining to cap the Roadrunners’ scoring.

Estancia added a late fourth-quarter touchdown on an 11-yard pass from backup quarterback Sean Kinkade to split end Tom Gumm.

In other action:

Corona del 27, University 21--Fullback Sean Turner scored two touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Sea Kings in Irvine Stadium. Corona del Mar is 2-1, 3-3. University is 0-3, 1-5.

The only bright spot for University was tailback Craig Belle. The junior returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and also scored on a six-yard run and an 11-yard pass from quarterback Bart Silberman. Earlier this week, Laguna Beach had to forfeit three of its first four victories for using an ineligible player.

Townsend rushed for 79 yards on 12 carries scoring on a 29-yard run in the first quarter, and a 7-yard run in the third quarter.

The Warriors extended their lead to 21-7 when John Yurkovich hit John Evers with a 24-yard pass with 11:41 left in the game.
