Gannett, which publishes 85 daily newspapers including USA Today, reported an 11% increase in net income for the third quarter. It said net income amounted to $61 million, up from $55 million in the period last year. Revenue grew to $550 million in the latest quarter from $473 million a year earlier. Allen H. Neuharth, Gannett chairman, said the earnings growth showed “the strength of Gannett’s broad base in every area.” USA Today had its best quarter in terms of revenue in its three-year history, Neuharth added.
