Biondi’s Overtime Goal Leads Cal to an 8-7 Water Polo Win Over UCI
Mike Biondi scored with 21 seconds remaining in the first overtime period Saturday to lead the UC Berkeley water polo team to an 8-7 victory over UC Irvine in a nonconference match played in the Bears’ pool at Berkeley. The second five-minute overtime period was scoreless.
Brett Del Valle, J.R. Salvatore and Tony Bell each scored two goals for the Anteaters, who dropped to 9-5. Biondi scored twice for Cal, which improved to 7-3.
In other water polo action:
Chapman College lost two matches on the opening day of the Trojan Open at USC Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (1-8) lost to Whittier, 12-4, and the USC junior varsity, 19-4. Carter Faber, who leads Chapman with 29 goals, scored twice in each defeat.
