Olympic champion Mark Shultz won a gold medal at the world freestyle wrestling championships in Budapest, Hungary, beating Alexander Nanev of Bulgaria, 10-5, in the final of the 180 1/2-pound division.
It was the first world title for Shultz and the 12th gold medal for the United States in the history of world wrestling title meets.
Sergei Bieloglazov of the Soviet Union won the first gold medal of the Budapest competition by beating Kevin Darkus of the United States in the 125 1/2-pound category.
