Construction will begin soon on a $2.28-million senior center in Azusa, with completion scheduled for next summer, according to Mayor Eugene Moses.
The 15,126-square-foot facility, to be built by the Benchmark Group, will be on the site of a parking lot at Dalton Avenue and 8th Street, across from City Hall. It will have two multipurpose rooms, two meeting rooms, two craft rooms a game room and a kitchen.
construction of the project was made possible by the sale of $3.7 million in certificates of payment, a form of financing resembling bonds that allow cities to construct facilities and pay them off over a period of time, according to City Manager Lloyd Wood. Most of the excess over the $2.28-million cost will be used to finance improvements to City Hall, he added.
