UCLA football Coach Terry Donahue said Tuesday that senior David Norrie will be the starting quarterback for the Bruins’ home opener Saturday against San Diego State.

Norrie, who had started the first game at Brigham Young, lost his starting spot to junior Matt Stevens for the second game after Stevens had come off the bench to pull out a victory against BYU. Norrie won the job back by coming off the bench to lead the Bruins’ tying comeback at Tennessee.

“I just felt that based upon his efforts in the fourth quarter of the Tennessee game, he had earned the right to start against San Diego State,†Donahue said. “The situation is the same as it has been all season. If the team is not moving the way I think it should, I will go to my relief pitcher.â€
