Development Pace in County

The Orange County supervisors have voted unanimously to approve revised developer fees to build three additional freeways in Orange County. These turkeys refused to read the handwriting on the wall when voters defeated Proposition A. They have persisted ever since in misreading that vote. We did not want that freeway! It has never been a question of who pays. It is simply no need.

The workings of minds so incapable of visions other than dollar signs are wondrous to behold. Of course, we must allow the Irvine Co. its freeway and rape of pristine wilderness. These fees may or may not be passed on to the home buyer. Of course they will.

Projections of the cost of just the San Joaquin Corridor are grossly underestimated. Will the taxpayers, then, be forced to come up with the additional millions to finish this disaster when it dead-ends somewhere behind Corona del Mar?

I invite you to come down El Toro Road and, as you approach the intersection with Laguna Canyon Road, note the “model†houses being erected there, jammed together with views only into the next dwelling.

Then continue to the canyon. Observe the beauty of the natural, unscraped and bulldozed landscape. Is this the heritage we leave our children and grandchildren? Freeways to nowhere! Wall-to-wall tacky dwellings? Do they not deserve better?

The supervisors, if they continue their course, leave a legacy of desecration that can only be attributed to greed.
