A 53-year-old bicyle rider was fatally injured Sunday when she was struck by a car that dragged her about 100 feet.
The accident occurred as Pacific Beach resident Barbara Ann Rosenblatt and her husband, Richard, a professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, rode their bicycles north on Front Street near University Avenue about 12:30 p.m.
Rosenblatt was struck by a westbound car as she turned west onto University, San Diego police said. The impact threw her to the ground, pinning her beneath the car. The car pulled to the right, striking her husband, who had pulled to a stop near the curb.
The couple were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where Barbara Rosenblatt died at 8:53 p.m., coroner’s deputies said. Her husband was listed in good condition.
