MIAMI — A U.S. Coast Guard cutter today intercepted a 35-foot sailboat crowded with 104 Haitians on board, bringing to 700 the number captured in a refugee interdiction program in two weeks, officials said.
Of the other 596 Haitians intercepted by the Coast Guard, none has been granted political asylum or other immigration status by the United States, and all but about 26--evacuated for medical treatment--were being sent back to Haiti.
