Anaheim : City Workers Donate to Statue of Liberty
To help restore the Statue of Liberty --a symbol of freedom for millions of immigrants through the years, city employees are participating in a payroll-deduction plan.
By next August, deadline for the city’s program, Anaheim employees plan to raise $14,341, a city official said. Of a 3,000-member work pool, 421 people signed up for the deductions, which average about $1 per week, the official added.
The payroll donations, which also include about $1,700 from one-time contributions, will be forwarded to the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Centennial Foundation.
