Dave Murphy of Louisville, Ky., won the 7.1-mile Falmouth, Mass., road race in 32:02, the third fastest time ever, and Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson broke her course record to win the women’s division.
It was Murphy’s second straight victory at Falmouth. Benoit Samuelson, 27, of Freeport, Maine, finished in 36:17.1, breaking her record of 36:21, set in 1983. It was the sixth time she has won the race in its 13 years.
