Paraguay Orders Radio Station Off Air 10 Days
ASUNCION, Paraguay — The government of President Adolfo Stroessner has accused a local radio station of subversion and ordered it off the air for 10 days, station owner Humberto Rubin said.
Rubin told reporters that the station, called Nanduti, had broadcast no subversive program and that there must be a hidden reason for the order.
Radio Nanduti was closed for 30 days in 1983 by the government.
Members of the government have criticized the station for airing the views of opposition politicians. Their views were also carried in the newspaper ABC Color until it was ordered to halt publication in March, 1984.
